As we look ahead to the holiday season, we are mindful that some are less fortunate than us. In the last year, Markham Food Bank has seen an increase of clients with food insecurity by 80%.

In keeping with that, I will hold a food bank drive event, "Markham Helping Hands 2023," with support from Markham Fire & Emergency Service and 3 local supermarkets to donate and deliver food items to Markham Food Bank.

From Saturday, December 9 to Sunday, December 10, please bring nonperishable, unopened food items to the entrance at the below supermarket locations:

1. Foodymart - 5221 Hwy 7, Markham, ON L3R 1N3
2. Sunny Foodmart - 7700 Markham Rd, Markham, ON L3S 4S1
3. WinCo Food Mart - 3155 Hwy 7, Markham, ON L3R 0T9

You will find large barrels where you can deposit the items.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. Let’s make a difference this holiday season.

Due to the increasing break-and-enter incidents, car thefts, and carjacking cases recently, Regional Councillor Alan Ho requested the York Regional Police to install cameras at major intersections to monitor and record the passing of cars for further investigations should there be crime take place at the York Regional meeting held on December 7.

The York Regional Police Chief has agreed to initiate a pilot program and will discuss with the Privacy Commissioner to address the privacy issue.

More details will be communicated shortly. Please provide your feedback to alan.ho@markham.ca

Join us on December 20, 2023, at 7 PM for a crime prevention meeting hosted by Regional Councillor Alan Ho and Ward 2 Councillor Ritch Lau, with the support of York Regional Police.

We will share crime prevention tips, discuss crime reporting, provide an update on the police camera pilot program and a Q&A session involving councillors, officers, and residents.
