An active weather system has produced light to moderate snowfall. Plows deployed this morning to plow & apply winter material to Primary and Secondary roads and the Cycle Tracks. Local roads and sidewalks continue to be monitored. Track our plows at http://markham.ca/winter

Due to the increasing break-and-enter incidents, car thefts, and carjacking cases recently, Regional Councillor Alan Ho requested the York Regional Police to update the installation of cameras at major intersections to monitor and record the passing of cars for further investigations should there be crime take place at the York Regional meeting held on December 7.

The York Regional Police Chief has agreed to initiate a pilot program and will discuss with the Privacy Commissioner to address the privacy issue.

-York Region News-

Before snow and freezing rain, York Region maintenance staff spray the roads with salty water called “brine.”

This technique prevents snow and ice from bonding with the asphalt surface and makes it easier for plows to remove snow and ice. http://york.ca/roads

Too much winter salt on the ground can end up in your drinking water.
Find out if you are in a drinking water protection zone and how to help protect municipal drinking water at http://york.ca/SaltResponsibly

Gladly attended the Tamil Heritage Month opening ceremony in 2024, which captivated attendees with its rich cultural tapestry and engaging presentations.
Speeding is an ongoing issue I have been working hard to tackle, and I continue to partner with York Regional Police (YRP) to deter this behaviour.
