THREE SUSPECTS CHARGED FOR ATTEMPTED CARJACKING IN MARKHAM

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking additional witnesses after police thwarted three men committing an armed carjacking in the City of Markham.

On April 25, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to a carjacking in the area of Highway 7 East and Woodbine Avenue. The victim was walking to their vehicle when they were approached by two male suspects, armed with at least one firearm who demanded their keys and stole their vehicle. The suspects had arrived in a stolen grey Acura SUV.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., investigators were conducting surveillance of three men operating the stolen Acura involved in the incident on April 25 in the area of Highway 7 and Woodbine. The vehicle parked and two suspects, one armed with a firearm, exited the vehicle and immediately began to assault two victims in attempt to steal their car keys.

With the assistance of #4 District CIB, #5 District CIB and the Emergency Response and Canine Units, investigators intervened and after a brief foot pursuit, three suspects were arrested and a loaded firearm was recovered. The victims suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.
