York Region is widening and improving 16th Avenue from Leslie Street to Kennedy Road to accommodate growth and provide more travel options.

 

Improvements include:
-Widening the road to six lanes to include transit/High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes 
-Rehabilitating bridges and culverts 
-Installing multi-use paths 
-Upgrading intersections
-Streetscaping and tree planting

 

Timeline:
2016 to 2020: Environmental Assessment Study
2021 to 2030: Detailed road design
Late 2025 to 2028: Construction activity on 16th Avenue from Leslie Street to Warden Avenue
2028 to 2030: Construction activity on 16th Avenue from Warden Avenue to Kennedy

We are improving Donald Cousens Parkway intersections at 14th Avenue and Copper Creek Drive in the City of Markham.

 

Crews are working weekdays, upgrading traffic signals and adding features to enhance walking and cycling.

Mosquitoes in York Region test positive for West Nile virus

 

The Regional Municipality of York monitors West Nile virus activity by setting mosquito traps and testing for West Nile Virus.

 

To date, two mosquito traps have recently tested positive for West Nile virus. A mosquito trap at Kennedy Road and 16th Avenue in the City of Markham and a second trap at Jane Street and Highway 7 in the City of Vaughan are the first positive traps of the year.
