York Regional Council:
 
York Regional Council approved a $3.96 billion budget for 2023, the first of a multi-year budget to align with the current term of Council.
 
In addition to a 2.9% tax increase for this year, the budget outlook for the remaining three years of the 2023 to 2026 term of office was endorsed.
 

As part of the 2023 budget deliberations, Regional Council reconfirmed its commitment to add an additional 1% to the tax levy to help fund the Region’s $1.12 billion portion of the Yonge North Subway Extension.

 

The endorsed outlook and tax levy increase for the remaining term of Council includes:

As you may know, recent earthquakes have struck Türkiye and Syria, leaving many families without homes and basic necessities. In response to this crisis, Markham Mayor and I are organizing a fundraiser event to raise money for earthquake relief efforts in these countries. 
 
All proceeds will go towards providing aid and support to those affected by the earthquakes. We believe that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact in the lives of those who are struggling in the aftermath of this disaster.

If you are a Grade 5 student in York Region who is passionate about making positive change in your community, this is the contest for you!

 

All you have to do is write a 300 to 400 word essay on how you would make a difference in your community. The winner will get their very own custom Chief of Police uniform, tour our training facility and meet with members of our Air Support, Emergency Response and Canine Units.

Ten students will be selected as Deputy Chiefs and have the opportunity to present their essay to a panel of judges. The winner will be named Police Chief for a Day.
