Important Construction Notice: HIGHWAY 7 FROM BAYVIEW AVENUE TO EAST OF HIGHWAY 404
Duration: Mid-May 2023 until early September 2023
Working Hours: Night work, Monday to Friday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Transportation improvements prepare York Region to meet the needs of motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users today and into the future. York Region is making improvements to Highway 7 from Bayview Avenue to east of Highway 404.
Initial work will consist of concrete repairs and adjustments to maintenance holes and catch basins. Once this initial work is complete, a road preservation treatment, called microsurfacing, will be applied to Highway 7.
It is a common and cost-effective way to maintain roads with minor defects and extend the life of the road. The road surface can feel rougher and sound noisier after the treatment, but over time, the stones will settle and the surface will become quieter
To learn more about microsurfacing, visit york.ca/RoadsOperations
Lane restrictions:
The road will remain open to through traffic; however, lane restrictions will be required to complete road improvements.
As with all road construction projects, work may be rescheduled due to weather. York Region will provide advance notice where possible.
We understand construction creates challenges for the community and we are working to deliver this project with minimal disruption. Thank you for your patience during the construction period.
If you have any questions or concerns, staff will be pleased to respond. Contact us using any method noted below and quote “Highway 7 improvements” in your inquiry.
Accessible formats of this notice and communication supports are available upon request.

As you may know, recent earthquakes have struck Türkiye and Syria, leaving many families without homes and basic necessities. In response to this crisis, Markham Mayor and I are organizing a fundraiser event to raise money for earthquake relief efforts in these countries.
All proceeds will go towards providing aid and support to those affected by the earthquakes. We believe that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact in the lives of those who are struggling in the aftermath of this disaster.
Thank you for your support and generosity.

About School Zones and Fire Routes
The City uses the Administrative Monetary Penalty System(AMPS). AMPS is a more efficient way to enforce and adjudicate parking by-laws. The City is actively enforcing parking violations in school zones.
AMPS facilitates the placement of parking tickets on windshields or via mail. This approach allows officers to efficiently address a larger number of illegally parked vehicles, on especially vehicles parked in fire routes.
Our by-law officers face unique challenges in managing traffic congestion during school pick-up and drop-off periods. |
